Current OpportunitiesGarden Mentors 2012GROWINGGARDENS is recruiting Volunteer Garden Mentors for the 2012 growing season! Mentors will work with one or more beginning gardeners enrolled in the Home Garden Program. They will assist Home Gardener(s) with the garden care, planning for spring/summer/winter gardening, planting, problem-solving, maintenance, worm & compost bin construction, and garden winterization. GROWINGGARDENS will provide training to mentors and mentees on garden planning, composting, soil health and winterization. Time commitment: February through October 2012. 2-6 hours/mo, 30+ hours total. TO APPLY: Please download read the Position Description and fill out an online Volunteer Application. Workshop Presenters 2012GROWINGGARDENS is recruiting Workshop Presenters for 2012! Workshop Presenters will present workshops as part of our Our Learn & Grow workshop series. Classes are open to anyone in the community throughout the year. We are looking for community members to share their knowledge in topics like Garden Planning, Composting, Beginning Gardening, Seed Saving, Cooking, Food Preservation, Winter Gardening, Urban Livestock as well as several other topics. GROWINGGARDENS can provide agendas or volunteers can create their own. We have set workshops that we offer each year but are also open to offering new topics based on volunteers expertise. Time commitment: ≈3 hours/workshop, not including prep and planning. TO APPLY: Please fill out the Workshop Presenter Interest Form Fix -It Fair 2/25We are looking for volunteers to fill two shifts at an upcoming Fix-It Fair! Saturday, February 25th Shift 1: 9-11:30 AM Shift 2:11:30-2 PM Location: Jefferson High School (5210 N Kirby) Volunteers will help answer questions about GROWINGGARDENS' programs and services. Fix-It Fairs are fun, free events sponsored by the City of Portland that help attendees save money and link them to helpful community resources. TIME COMMITMENT: 2.5 hours Dawn of the BedCreate a team & fight hunger for GROWINGGARDENS Are you looking for a fun way to make a positive impact in the community? Consider becoming a Team Captain & form a garden building team for GROWINGGARDENS Dawn of the Bed! No prior garden experience necessary. GROWINGGARDENS digs at the root of hunger in Portland by installing raised garden beds at the homes of low-income households. Three years of support including seeds, plants, tools, compost & worm bins and education from volunteer mentors and workshops assure the success of our Home Gardeners. Dawn of the Bed is a day to build garden beds with the support of volunteer teams who will build the gardens and raise financial pledges for the cause. HOW DOES IT WORK?

Growers Needed for Annual Plant Distribution DayEach year GROWINGGARDENS provides plant starts for over 100 enrolled Home Gardeners. This year's Plant Distribution Day will take place on May 19th, 2012 and we are looking for experienced growers to contribute veggie starts.
GROWINGGARDENS can provide:
- Seeds
- Pots
- Flats
- Plant pick-up
You will need:
- Soil
- Space to grow at least 2 flats (64 plants)
- Experience growing plant starts
TIME COMMITMENT: 4-6 hours per week for the weeks of January 17th, 23rd & 30th (Tues-Friday hours anytime between 9am-5pm) and available for most of the following Saturdays: Feb 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th & March 3rd from 8am-noon TO SIGN UP: Please email laura@growing-gardens.org if interested!
