Growing Gardens internships are open to anyone who BELIEVES in our mission. Hours and roles vary from program to program and we expect our interns to commit to the requested time frame.

Correctional Facility Internship
Our Lettuce Grow Program interns assist our Correctional Facilities Director, Rima Green. Tasks vary and are dependent on program needs and intern interests. We’re especially keen with applicants who are self driven and have patience working with correctional facilities. We’re currently partnered with correctional facilities throughout Oregon. Responsibilities may include driving across the state to connect with Lettuce Grow volunteers, facilitate classes, data entry, research grants and create or expand on refining our program. Interns go through a department of correction background check, attend a DOC training, and will work closely with our Lettuce Grow Program Director. Gardening experience is welcome but not required, interns will work out in the garden with our inmate students and have an opportunity to facilitate indoor/outdoor garden lessons.
Our Youth Grow Program interns assist the lead School Garden Coordinator in facilitating classroom garden lessons by: leading small groups of students while implementing garden lessons. Responsibilities include helping with set-up and clean-up of activities, supporting classroom management, helping with garden maintenance, and documenting student experiences (ie. quotes and photos). Note: We are partnered with seven local elementary schools. Terms: Sept-Dec and/or Jan-June.

We’re looking for a candidate who is a meticulous editor and can keep our community well informed and involved with our mission. Along with taking charge of Growing Gardens’ social media accounts we are looking for a blog enthusiast ready to develop engaging stories that connect to the work we do and add to the dialogue of the food justice movement. Our intern will work closely with our Executive Director to market fundraising events, publicize volunteer needs, and develop outreach materials.
Events and Outreach Intern
Our Home Gardens Program increases fresh food access by providing the resources, education and support for limited income families to grow food for themselves and neighbors. Our Events and Outreach intern must be enthusiastic, self directed, organized, and an engaging communicator. We’re looking for an energetic candidate who enjoys the prospect of co-leading our garden build/installation events and increasing local businesses involvement with our mission.
